This heavy duty pan is the only non-stick pan alternative to teflan.There have been recent scientific studies that have shown concern about long term use & deterioration of teflan & teflan type coated pans.This German made Silit pan is a healthy alternative -- safe up to 3000 degrees.I like the pan -- with a few caveats.It came (from Amazon) with a loose handle.Not a big issue, just needed a few twists w/a screw driver to tighten -- just a bit annoying when you pay so much for something.The pan also seems to need to be seasoned -- used a few times w/some oil -- in order to perform at peak (that was not suggested in the directions that came w/the pan).Also, the pan is really heavy.All in all, I use this pan just about everyday & it has been worth the money knowing I'm not cooking up some chemical coatings in my dinner.I hope Silit starts to make a skillet a couple inches bigger to appeal more to the US market.
