Review of Mario Batali Essentials Pot

I love everything about this pot-it has style, great functionality, design, a flat bottom (EXCELLENT Design)and produces some of the best food that I have cooked with even browning,braising, roasting etc. (I have only cooked beans and vegetables in this). It minimizes the amount of oil you have to use, even the liquid required to cook something and the time required (cost savings on gas). The pot is substantial and the lid is heavy and rimmed with little spikes on the underside (perhaps this helps meat-cookers but I find that all the cooking liquid splatters up on it and makes it slightly messy to present or clean up when dry. I would have rated this product with all stars except for the lid knob design which is in stainless steel and beautifully designed but it gets HOT!!! I would have preferred a heat-resistant lid knob instead. Perhaps this was part of the marketing to sell the silicone grips separately- I don't know-by habit I tend to reach for the lid without a grip or towel until I've felt the heat and burned my hand. I wish they had sold a grip for the knob with the pot. Now I have to be more aware when I'm about to lift up the lid. For those women who are petite or not used to lifting something more slowly, the lid is HEAVY. This is a good thing in my opinion but takes a little getting used to when you reach forward to stir something or add something to the pot. Otherwise this is by far the best pot at a very affordable price point that I consider as a lifetime investment. I personally would not put this in a dish-washer but hand-wash it with mild soap and water and soft sponge and the clean up is easy except for the spikes on the lid but even then its not a terribly big ordeal.
