Review of MIU Silicone Set of Two Spatulas, Blue

I see that everyone else loves these spatulas, but I'm wondering what they are using to hold them with -- the handles are horrible. They are just thin, sharp metal. Are you all using gloves or mitts or something?I agree they probably are great with regard to heat-resistance, but the handles are extremely uncomfortable.

Product Description
Strong, nonstick, and heat-resistant to 680 degrees F., with silicone heads and 18/10 stainless steel handles. Set includes one 10" and one 12.5" spatula

Review of Cuisipro Silicone Spoon 11.5 Inch, Blue

They're not the best spoon in the drawer, they're not the best spatula in the drawer... but for a dual purpose spoonula... they're good enough for most uses.

I bought a pair of these to replace some olde spoons I had that started to crack and chip. So far these are holding up very well, they've not melted in the really hot stirfrys, they've not taken on any colors or smells from lots of tomatoes or curry, and they've not scratched any of my good cookware. So from their performance perspective I'm happy. I knew going in that the shape was a hybrid spoon / spatula, and there are times that works very very nice; but, there are times when I really wish they were just more spoon than spatula. Especially when dishing heavy dishes, I've lost "spoonfulls" due to it just slopping off back into the pan (or worse, the stove top). Also twice in the first month that I owned them I've ended up having to use another spoon to mount a rescue mission to get the spoon head out of a dish of heavy food, after pulling the spoon out and just getting the handle. The connection is intended to be removable for cleaning... but it seems a little TOO easy to pop off. Solution is to just not try to pull the spoon straight back out, bring it out sideways.

Speaking of the handle reminds me that they seem awfully conductive for a cooking spoon. I have an (admittedly bad) habit of leaving the spoon resting on the edge of the skillet/pot when browning meat or stirring sauce... so that the head of the spoon is hanging over the food and the opposite end is resting on the counter or cook top, or floating above it because the handle of the pan is supporting the handle of the spoon part way along. Anyway, my other spoons have no issue with this. These spoons the handle gets warm in a couple minutes, and hot if allowed to stay there too long.

Once I got used to cooking with these instead of my old bakelite spoons, I'm mostly happy with them.

Review of KitchenAid 6-1/2-Quart Cast-Iron Oval Casserole, Blue

The Dutch oven color is a deep blue with white interior. Cleans very easily with soap and water and so far does not seem to stain. Although it is heavy, it does beautifully in a 500 degree oven without having to worry about the handles. Heats evenly. Durable and does not chip, if it does chip in the future I would be very surprised. The quality is great. It was the only Dutch oven I could find that would stand up to 500 degree oven without replacing the handles.

Product Description
This oval casserole performs flawlessly whether cooking on the stovetop or in the oven. The shape allows multiple pieces to fit better together on the stove top, and a large cooking surface makes it perfect for searing meats at the start of a one-dish recipe. The capacity allows plenty of space for the rest of your ingredients making this the ideal vessel for stews, pot roasts, and other slow-cooked foods.

Review of Cuisipro Silicone Locking Tongs 12 Inch, Blue

I have tried many tongs and these are by far the most comfortable. Unlike the OXO ones I have (and NEVER use) these open just the right distance so your hand doesn't get a cramp in it. The spring is good and I still have my first pair from many years ago and they are still like new.
I have both the 9 inch and 12 inch pair.
Love them!!!!

Product Description
Designed to handle both cooking and serving tasks with ease, the Cuisipro tongs are available in a variety of styles and colors. The Cuisipro tongs have the traditional push and pull locking mechanism and feature non stick silicone ends. The tongs are made with a high quality stainless steel and have a hook on the ends for easy hanging. Commercial quality, these patented locking pull mechanism tongs can be opened and closed with one hand. Silicone is heat resistant to 575 degrees F and are dishwasher safe.

Review of Staub 5-Quart Round Cocotte, Blue

Owning both Le Creuset products and now Staub, my Staub has quickly become my favorite enameled cast iron pot, FAR surpassing Le Creuset in quality and usability. The metal handle is the first, most obvious difference and I almost purchased the item based on that fact alone. It's easy to grab even with pot holders and the design of the lid makes the lid-handle transition area seamless - unlike LC. The LC knob is oven safe to 450 or so, but I like the reassurance of metal. Besides it looks nicer. The next obvious difference is the design of the lid.First, the lid fits tightly and more snugly than LC. It is flat on top rather than domed. Second, the self-basting spikes, while not exactly as revolutionary as they claim, are a nice addition and work relatively well when stove top braising (in oven braising it doesn't seem to make as much difference because of the all-around heat). Third, is the interior of the pot. It is a black matte finish with a little bit of texture to it. I like it better than the smooth LC but I will admit it's sometimes hard to see foods browning against a dark black interior. The final point I'll make is that the Staub cast iron is thicker than the LC. Thicker means heavier, but it also means better heat retention. Enough said, when going for French enameled cast iron I will no longer look to Le Creuset and I suggest you do the same.

Product Description
The French oven is a timeless standby for stews, roasts, soups, casseroles and other one-pot classics.Staub has perfected this tradition in our signature "La Cocotte" French Oven, the choice of some of the world's best chefs. The design has self basting spikes for continuous, natural basting. When your meal is ready, La Cocotte moves beautifully from the stove to your table.

Review of Staub La Theiere Round Teapot

Staub La Theiere Round TeapotThis teapot was at the top of my wishlist last Christmas (except in the color "le bleu"), and I was thrilled to find it under the tree! It is, by far, the most beautiful and interesting teapot I've ever seen and it dresses up my stove and kitchen even more than I had imagined. It is always one of the first things admired when someone new walks into my kitchen. It has an almost asian aesthetic which I find incredibly unique, and I love the way the handles fold down to allow you to remove the whole top. Not only is it sooooooo cool, but it's also nice to be able to get at the inside of the teapot to clean it. All the other ones I've owned had a very small top which made it difficult to clean off those hard water spots! But while this is the most beautiful and unique teapot, it is certainly not the most practical and it falls a little short in the function department. My complaints with it are the following:

1)Its terribly small girth: I have a professional Thermador rangetop with massive burners and this poor little teapot gets swallowed up by them. I have to have the burner on medium-low to low as to not have flames lopping up the sides of the teapot. This, coupled with the fact that cast iron is slow to heat up anyway, makes the task of heating up water take WAY longer than my old stainless steel model. Also, the small size is generally fine for everyday use, but if you are trying to boil teawater for more than a few people, then this teapot cannot accomodate your needs.

2)Its weight: Don't be fooled by its petite size, this is one heavy teapot! It doesn't pose too much of a problem for me, being that I'm still relatively young and strong, but if I were much older or had arthritis or other joint problems, I don't think I'd be able to handle this teapot!

3)Hot handle: Now bear in mind that this has always been a problem with every teapot I've ever owned, but those stainless handles get super hot. So hot, in fact, that it requires the use of oven mitts to handle, but again, I expect that from a teapot.

4)No whistle: The last teapot I had whistled, which I found to be a very handy feature. It has been a difficult transition for me without one, b/c I used to rely on the whistle to let me know when the water was at a boil and now I tend to forget to check on the pot.

All that being said, I still wouldn't trade in this teapot. I am so in love with the look of it, that I am willing to compromise on the function department. It may not have all the convenient features of my old teapot, but it still serves its purpose. It does boil water after all!

So for beauty and aesthetics this teapot is off the charts (5 stars all the way), but it earns 3 stars in the function department, leaving me with a final rating of 4 stars. If you can sacrifice a few comforts associated with some other models in order to gain a striking and unique teapot that is sure to become a conversation piece, then I wholeheartedly recommend this teapot to you!

Review of Innova Color Cast Porcelain-Enameled Cast-Iron 7-Quart Oval Roaster, Blue

As of this writing we've had the pot for a few weeks and have used it a few times. We've used cast iron skillets for years, but this was our first procelain coated pot.The pot and lid are indeed heavy, which we like.It works great for browning meat and sauteeing vegatables on our electric stove top, then goes right in the oven for braising. We've been trying some new recipes and haven't had a bad result yet.

The handles and the knob on the lid are large enough to be comfortable for grabbing with an oven mitt or potholder. We haven't run it through the dishwasher yet because it cleans up so easily in the sink. We've never tried the more expensive brands, but I'd be impressed if they cooked food any better or cleaned up any easier. We'll have to see over time how durable these pots are, but they show no wear from use so far.

At 7 quarts, this pot is large enough for a good sized roast, so we're now waiting for the 5-quart to arrive and will probably order the 2-1/2 quart for smaller recipes. If you're not familiar with braising (as we weren't) a good instructional cookbook may make this your favorite piece of hardware.

Review of Innova Color Cast Porcelain Enameled Cast Iron 5-Quart Round Dutch Oven, Blue

I usually cook almost exclusively with Lodge Logic pre-seasoned cast iron cookware (Dutch ovens, skillets, etc.) and they are superb. However, when I make pasta sauce in their 5 quart Dutch oven, and simmer the sauce for several hours, the acidity of the tomato puree added to the sauce erodes the seasoning that coats the cast iron. This requires re-seasononing, which isn't difficult but is somewhat time consuming. I figured I'd try the Innova porcelain covered cast iron, but expected it to be lighter and cheaper than the Lodge Duch oven. Much to my surprise, it proved to be perfect for making sauce. It's heavy, retains heat well and the cover fits perfectly. Even better, after making sauce, all you have to do is rinse and wipe - no re-seasoning. If you like to simmer sauce for a long time, as I do, put this on the top of your shopping list. Also, consider buying a heat diffuser so you have no "hot" spots when you simmer. I use two different ones, and both are good. One is made by Nordic Ware, and the other by ILSA, an Italian company. They can be found in catalogues or with a Google search.

Review of KitchenAid 8-Quart Cast-Iron Oval Casserole, Blue

I have a 5-quart Le Creuset already and needed a bigger casserole for larger family gatherings. This piece is perfect-great size, terrific price, performs just as well as the much pricier Le Creuset. It works well for soups, stews, roasts, and the newly popular "no-knead bread". It also looks good on the table.

Review of T-Fal Styles Hard Enamel 10-Piece Cookware Set, Blue

My daughter loves her new T-Fal Pots and pans. This was a late Christmas present for her. They are very easy to clean and cook with. I have been cooking with my T-Fal for the past 10 years. I wouldn't use anything else. I also purchased a 10 pice set of T-Fal pots and pans for my son and his new fiance for christmas. My daughter in law to be had already bought a set of Stainless Steel pots and pans for their new home and hated them from day one. So I told her I would get her a set of T-Fal, because they are easier to cook with and so quick and easy to clean up. Thanks T-Fal for some great pots and pans.

Review of Heuck 33028 Porcelain Enamel Cast Iron 10.5 Inch Chicken Fryer, Blue

Heuck deserves lauding praises not only for the very affordable price at which amazon lists this skillet, but also for the impeccable attention to detail in their manufacture of their proven cookware. Heuck stands up to the same quality, or is, as in this case, better than Le Creuset, Calphalon, etc. Enamel Cast Iron products have been around since the Industrial Revolution because of their wide versatility ("from the fire, to the fridge, to the freezer, and back to the fire"), extremely durability, and for being such a pleasure to use. Its porcelain enamel surface is inert - does not react chemically with any food, nor at any temperature. This skillet proves its worthiness with sautéing, frying, making stews and soups, brazing or slow roasting large cuts of meat, and even for baking such goodies as cornbread and coffee cake. Product ships with instructions on how best to clean and care for skillet and its different surfaces. However, it is further recommended that, if there are cooked-on food stains and particles, let soak for at least an hour in warm water, and hand clean this product with only the mildest dishwashing liquid and dishcloth or mildly abrasive sponge, but NOT in the dishwasher. The heat/water cycles of the appliance tend to eventually wear the shine of the enamel, making it opaque and diminishing the enamel's heat retention. As with any heavy cookware, such as Pyrex (another excellent product), one must also take care not to chip or break the porcelain enamel coating on the cast iron. This color choice is a deep Persian blue (not cobalt on the exterior), and is very beautiful with ivory white in the interior. You will receive many years of great use and pleasure of this product. Happy cooking!

Product Description
Cook like a professional with this beautiful Porcelain Enameled Cast Iron Cookware. The cast iron absorbs heat evenly and spreads it gently while cooking and the Porcelain Enameled finish allows for easy clean up and won't absorb odors or flavors. Use on gas, electric, induction and ceramic ranges.

Review of Farberware Cook 'n' Ease 10-Piece Cookware Set, Blue

I just received my cookware set and I am thrilled. (...) The product image does not do this set justice-I selected the blue color because I have mostly blue accessories, and it is a satin metal finish on the outside-not a glossy ceramic coating which makes the set even more durable and easy to clean. The metallic shade of blue is stunning and the cookware is built to last, the lids fit well and they are of a superior gloss and the set is very heavy. I too am hard on my cookware and I expect to have this set for the duration. The handles are tight, and though the set is sturdy-the pieces aren't so heavy that they are difficult to clean or handle as some cookware is-especially skillets. I am single, but after 20 years of marriage I am used to cooking all of my meals and I can tell this set will hold up and serve all of my cooking needs. I already had a farberware full size high-sided skillet for making chili or anything with a larger liquid volume and I think that is the only other item I would add to this collection for a complete kitchen for the gourmet or novice. Value, quality and appearance in one tidy box!

Product Description
This expanded cookware basics collection is an economical way to outfit your kitchen with all the cookware essentials. Nonstick inside/outside offers healthy cooking and easy cleanup. Other features include beautiful champagne color exterior and gleaming stainless steel lids and handles. Dishwasher safe.

Review of Innova Color Cast Porcelain Enameled Cast Iron 10-Inch Non-Stick Frypan, Blue

Yeah, I tried seasoning a cast iron frying pan, never washed it just scrubbed it out with salt.It was much more work than any other gadget I have and it wasn't worth it.This is the perfect solution. The frying pan is perfect for searing rib eyes or filets and then popping them in the oven to roast which gives you a far better result than broiling them. The nonstick interior cleans up with paper towels and water and you don't need to put it in the dishwasher which is forbidden anyway. The pan is so heavy that when you preheat it to sear you are able to completely sear a couple of steaks at a time. It's so heavy you could stop a whole band of coyotes with this thing no matter what they'd purchased from the Acme Corporation. It works very well with an induction cooking top too.The handle is bare porcelain enamel and it gets warm so consider buying a silicone handle cover especially if you have a gas range.Last but not least it has spouts for pouring off deglazing liquids to make those great reduction sauces.
