When I recently replaced a set of old, chipped mixing bowls, I wanted to go with American-made, durable, solid glass.I chose an inexpensive 3-piece Pyrex set but ended up very frustrated with those sloped sides and all of the associated splattering I got whenever I used my hand-held electric mixer. Christmas baking was the last straw.I ordered this Anchor Hocking set for 2 reasons - 1) It's made in the U.S.A., and 2) the sides are much steeper than in the Pyrex sets.I am thrilled with my purchase and am using these bowls for everything now.The Pyrex set is headed for the second-hand store!
*** Helpful Hint July 09 *** - This set doesn't come with the larger 4 qt. bowl, but you might be able to find it at Big Lots for a mere $5.(I did.)Also, I kept my smallest Pyrex bowl (with the sloped sides) because I sometimes set it over another pan of water to double-boil/melt chocolate for recipes.The sloped sides do give it the shallowness needed for double-boiling, but for EVERYTHING ELSE I use these Anchor Hocking mixing bowls.Also, the cracker jars made by Anchor Hocking are fabulous for pantry storage of just about everything - heavyweight glass and made in the U.S.A.!!!

These bowls are great. They are very deep for mixing things up and the lids seal really well. These are the first bowls that I grab when needing to store something. Very nice product.
I like the fact that I can put it in a microwave and it doesn't stain.I prefer rectangular containers because they use space in my rather small refrigerator more efficiently.I wish it was a little deeper with the width and length the same.When I bought it in February, Amazon didn't give its dimensions with the product description.Now (May 16, 2009) I'm editing my original review because Amazon says it is 12.2 x 8 x 5.8 inches.This is false; perhaps those are the dimensions of the box used for shipping.Embedded in the glass, it says "3 cup - 750 ml, 7 x 5 x 1.5 in", which is far smaller than Amazon says.Amazon's error on this makes me skeptical of dimensions on other Pyrex Storage Rectangular Dishes with Dark Blue Plastic Cover, which I would otherwise consider purchasing.I like the product in principle but knowing the actual dimensions is very important to me in deciding what to buy.
I like the set, for being the typical excellent quality from pyrex, but the millions of warnings it comes with are making me nervous. It hasn't given me problems with anything though. I can take it from the oven to the table to the fridge to the freezer, and back, with no problems.
These are very attractive and high quality - heavy weight and substantial.They are deep enough, and the sides are sufficiently vertical, so that they function very well as mixing bowls, but they also are attractive enough to use as serving bowls.And if memory serves, they also go in the over, the freezer, and the microwave.What more could one ask?Maybe they have a brother at home ... .
