I normally prefer metal spatulas with a long, thin, flexible lifting surface for more easily getting under the egg, hamburger or pancake. This spatula has none of those attributes.Nevertheless, I have found it quite useful. It has a short, thick head and is very stiff.Although it is thick, it has a sharpened edge (perhaps this is why it is called a "slice"?).This rigidity makes it quite useful if something has stuck to the pan and needs to be removed with force which might bend a flexible spatula excessively. Moreover, the sharpness of the edge combined with the stiffness also makes this very useful for cutting casseroles, tamales pies, lasagna or the like right in the pyrex dish, metal pan or Le Creuset french oven.Rather than dulling the edge of my nice knives on the glass, metal or enamel surface or in turn damaging those surfaces (particularly the enamel of the Le Creuset), I simply push this spatula down gently and cut out squares of the item.I still use thin, metal, slightly flexible spatulas for most frying pan "work", but I find myself reaching for this one every weekend for the other kitchen tasks mentioned above.
