This Knife is all one piece, so bending and breaking isn't an issue.It has stayed sharp quite a bit longer then other knives we own.(I found this out the hard way by cutting myself)

Review of MIU Stainless 5-Quart Saute Pan with Lid

I'm a little surprised this saute pan doesn't have more reviews.It has a clunky "commercial kitchen" type feel to it, but it has worked well in the month or so I have had it.I have browned meat, boiled water and cooked pasta in it, made large batches of pasta sauce in this saute pan, and throughout it all this pan has been easy to clean, as far as stainless cookware goes.

It's only claim to "tri-ply" is its base, but for what I use a saute pan for, that is enough.The main reason I bought the MIU Stainless 5-Qt Saute Pan, aside from it being large (11" diameter, straight sides, 5 qt capacity) and coming with a lid, was that it had welded handles and was usable on induction hobs.Obviously, I am on the side of the welded handle camp, versus the riveted handle camp, for ease of cleanup and being able to run my cooking utensils smoothly around a pan.

The MIU Stainless 5-Qt Saute Pan with Lid doesn't have the heft (or price) of the analogous Sitram or Demeyere piece, but in my home kitchen, it does what I ask it to.I can't comment yet on the durability of the weld jobs since I've only had it for such a short time.I would recommend this saute pan as a serviceable, cheaper albeit less well-constructed alternative to other welded-handle, stainless steel cookware, such as Sitram or Demeyere.

Review of Progressive International Steamer Basket

My steamer basket must be going on 20 years of age, looks like new.It has outlived the gift of a plug-in steamer that was the size of a food processor and awkward to clean (regifted that).It nestles in 2 quart or larger saucepans or Dutch ovens, with its trademark overlapping folding "petals" adjusting for the size of the pan. The stainless surface makes it reasonably easy to maintain. When using it to steam starchy vegetables like potatoes, I recommend coating it with vegetable spray to make clean-up less of a chore.The only thing better is the flat bottomed steamer insert that came with my Revere Ware saucepans. This, however, takes up much less storage space than any alternative.

Things others may not like: 1) The awkward thing about it is that moment of truth when you need to get the vegetables up and out of the steam pot into the serving dish. You kind of pinch the center pole with a potholder, make sure the sides are up at least a little, then spill the contents into the dish. Or you transfer the contents with tongs. 2) The legs are no more than an inch long, so the water level for steaming must be kept low. 3) This has not happened to mine but I have encountered many broken (and thus useless) baskets with missing petals or collapsed legs in hard-used beach cottages. 4) The petals sometimes catch on scrubbies or dishcloths when being washed, a fleeting annoyance.5) It fits awkwardly in the dishwasher and I believe washing it at the sink contributes to longevity.

Review of J.A. Henckels Twin Cuisine 2-Piece Asian Set

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Henckles.I think they are the best knives on the planet.However I feel like I got ripped of with this set in particular.

The picture shows what I believed was a kudamono parer.So I was very suprised when it arrived to find a typical 4 inch parer which was exactly the same as the one I received in another set I bought. But when you read the description, it IS listed as a 4 inch parer, which is what I got.I suppose I should have paid closer attention to the details, but the picture showed what I wanted and I thought the description was just describing what was pictured.

I just wanted to write this review so no one makes the same mistake I made.The knives themselves are the best I've ever had.

Review of Progressive International Stainless Steel Splatter Screen

I am the cook in the family and saute 90% of the meals. I have a nice stove and like to keep it clean. This screen has a very fine mesh so most but not all of the stuff simmering in the pan stays in the pan. Some very fine droplets get through but that is so much better than coating my stove with whatever I am cooking! The screen is stainless and after being used hundreds of times, it still looks good. These screens tend to discolor a bit with age but it is not rust. You can spend $50 for a real shiny fine mesh screen that might not tarnish a little but why would you. This screen does a nice job at a modest cost. The "feet" on one side allows it to rest on the counter in a raised fashion. A winner.

Review of Paula Deen 2 Quart Stainless Steel Teakettle with Copper Bottom

I think this teakettle was designed a bit nicer than the other brand kettle with the copper bottom.After using it a while, it doesn't seem to get calcium build up much, but then again it's hard to tell to look inside the pot.I wish there was an easier way of filling up the pot to the proper max water level.If you overfill too much, the whistle won't work, it will just boil water out.Maybe a center cap to open to see the water level, and clean inside.Otherwise I have to lay the pot on the stove and see if the water is below the bottom of the spout.It does boil very quick with the copper bottom compared to an older keattle we had, with no metallic taste.

This is the fourth perdero everyday frying pan that I have purchased.
The first for me, the others as gifts.
As a "mature" cook, that is, OLD, I have enjoyed cooking and using good cookware for years.This pan is the best!I use it, with a roasting rack, for roasting; on the stove top for frying, sauteing, simmering.

A cook/chef is only as good as his/her tools.Silit is the finest brand of cookware that we've ever experienced and we are picky, picky, picky!It makes cooking a pleasure.It's high quality and we can reasonably expect it to last forever, but the thing that sets it apart from all others is that it's nickel-free, very important for people who have sensitivities and weird or unknown allergies.It's great to see that it's now available through amazon.com.We bought our first Silit pot via amazon.de in Germany.We had to have it shipped to our friend in Bavaria and she mailed it to us.No problems with clearing customs, no charges.(We called first to be sure)Yikes, it was a bit of a fiasco, but we wanted it that much.

There is one point to note with the Pasta Pot however.Check out the pictures.It appears that there are two sizes, but both are listed as 3.75 quarts.There actually are two sizes.The smaller is about 3.75 quarts and the larger is about 5.5 quarts.We have the 5 quart and love it.In the world of giant pasta/stock pots, this size can hold lots and lots!We also have the a Silit Vision e30 line pot and love that, too.The photos do not do it justice.It's gorgeous and the lid has a glass insert making it really easy to keep tabs on cooking progress.

This is yet another fabulous pot from the blinQ collection - I have them all. This is a nice dutch oven type pot. It's not as tall as I thought it would be but it's still nice and deep. I use this one to make soups and sauces in and it's plenty big for that. This is not like the pink, lightweight cheap pots that don't last. These pots are made to withstand the test of time. Love the color of course and it's a great quality pot. I highly recommend.

I LOVE home made stock.However, I don't have time to make it in small batches.With this pot I can make enough to last two months... and I use a LOT of stock.I like this pot so much, I bought another!That way I can make all my chicken and veal stock in one day.

This is a LARGE pot.I would not recommend this if you don't have a gas range.If you do, AND you make stock, you NEED one of these.This is a very sturdy, heavy duty pot.

NOTE: I also like the lid.It has a small hole to let steam escape while your stock simmers.However, I wish they'd include it with the purchase of the pot.(Who needs a pot without a lid?)

I wish I had had this pasta insert years ago!No more trips to the sink with a heavy pot of pasta in hot water, no more scalding steam coming out as I pour the water in the sink.When the pasta is done, I just lift the insert out of the pot, hold it for a few seconds to let the water drain out, and then dump the pasta in a serving dish. Fits in my 8-quart stockpot but probably could be used in other sized pots as well.

Review of iittala Tools 2-Quart Saucepan with Lid

The 2-quart saucepan with lid is very solidly made. Women tell me they are just too heavy. For a man this is not an issue, but I have some objections; firstly, the handle is heavy so the pan doesn't sit flat on my ceramic hob until it is nearly half full; secondly, the lid is a tight fit (good) but there is no way to adjust the amount of steam that can escape. Thus it is all too easy to let the contents boil over. In fact rice or pasta is a no no with the lid on. Finally, the lid handle can get too hot. I have Polaris pans also by Hackman. These are over 25 years old. Still inexcellent condition, much lighter, but clearly strong enough and they don't have any of these issues. In a nutshell, the DAHLSTROM pans look brilliant and are very nice to use. They are fantastically well made but not as functional as they should be for the money. You can do better.

Want to quietly impress your friends at the next big backyard BBQ? Want to appear extremely stylish as you cut up that next fat Rib Eye steak for your lady?

This is the carving set to get.

The design is both beautiful and functional. The dove tail shape of the handle keeps the blade off of the table or cutting board, which not only looks nice but keeps the blade sharp. The fork is very handy of course, for holding down the meat as you slice, and makes it easy to serve the line of people standing there with their plates in hand.

It is spendy, yes. But if you care about such things as kitchen hardware and have an appreciation for metal working and aesthetics, and can afford it, I suggest this set.

Review of All-Clad Stainless 3-Quart Mixing Bowl

These are the best mixing bowls I have every used! I use at least one or two every day. They have a nice handle so you can get a good grip on it. The polished stainless steel is so beautiful you could definitely use them to serve as well. I find I use the 1.5 quart for mixing sauces or beating eggs and the 3 & 5 quart sizes for cake mixes and fillings. I also have the 7 quart that is a must have for making meatballs. They do not have any rubber on the bottom and I prefer them this way.I think the rubber bottoms are bacteria collectors and shorten the lifetime of the bowl.I have an oxo rubber bottom mixing bowl that I never use, I actually store my hand mixer and attachments in it.
The bases of the All Clad mixing bowls are a good size and there is no danger that anything could tip over, that is unless you tip it over yourself! They are also very, very easy to clean and they nest together perfectly to save space.I am also planning to add the 1-quart size to my collection soon. Top quality and excellent design! Once you use these bowls you will not want to use any others!If you are considering this bowl, check out the 3-bowl set, it is a great value! Highly recommended!

Review of Silicone-Wrapped 10" Whisks

While I'm a tool guy, I purchased this mainly for my wife, who just can't get it through her head, that metal destroys non-stick pots and pans. She is always stirring food as it cooks with a metal whisk, fork or metal tongs.

We have three expensive, heavy duty, non-stick skillets that are now assigned the job, minus handles, of being pet food dishes. I bought this Cuisipro Silicone Egg Whisk and a pair of Cuisipro Silicone Tongs two months ago on Amazon.

The quality is great and my wife now uses them all of the time. Maybe our new pans will last for more than a couple of months.

I love this pot.It was a real splurge, but this is an essential shape for me and hard to find.This pot replaces a similar pot from another manufacturer of enameled cookware.While this pot was much more expensive than my other pot, I can tell it is much better quality.My other pot eventually warped on the bottom and had a nonstick interior that degraded after 10 years of practically daily usage.This one is much heavier and the bottom is obviously much thicker.The lid fits extremely well.When boiling liquids in this pot, the lid doesn't rattle around because there is a tiny little vent hole in the lid.I don't really miss the nonstick. The enameled interior is slick and easy to clean.I'm so impressed with this pot that now I want a stockpot and a casserole in the same gorgeous color.
