Review of Mr. Bar-B-Q Cast-Iron Wok

My wife and I love this wok and use it every day.The cast iron is easy to take care of and distributes the heat very well. The feature we really like is the true "wok shape."What I mean is the shape is like a bowl within the wok, but the bottom is flat for resting on our electric stove.(And it sits VERY steadily because of the weight!)This really produces good results with all kinds of stir-frying--no sticking and quickly, evenly cooked dishes.

I have to say that before we were using the Joan Chen carbon steel.I got uncomfortable with the way (even after a year) it kept rusting even when oiled, always leaving a thick residue of oxide on paper towels when we wiped the pan.I figured this was going into our food. The new cast iron wok is just like a cast iron skillet:it really doesn't throw off a lot of oxide when cared for properly.

A few tips:scrub like crazy with good stainless steel or brass before using it the first time, then boil some soapy water in it and repeat. This gets rid of the machine oil used for shipping.(Good instructions are included.)

After the first several uses, rubbing the inside down with oil and then heating the wok in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes will ensure a good start to the seasoning process. From then on, keep the wok from rusting while stored by heating it a little before rubbing it down with oil.

NOTE:I'm ordering another one today, May 3, 2008, for a Chinese friend who had lunch with us and fell in love with the wok.I see other customers have had problems with cracks and figuring out how to remove the shipping oil...I will report back when the new one arrives!

OK!I've now received two of these in great shape (5/6/08).No strange machine oil.Fantastic deal!

Review of T-Fal 5-Quart, 12-Inch Total Nonstick Jumbo Cooker, Black

My T-Fal set of pots & pans didn't include this jumbo cooker, but right away I saw we needed this. It's great for big batch cooking like chili or stovetop meals.I like to cook up enough in one batch to save cooking later in the week.
This has most of the features I wanted: extra handle so you can use two hands to lift it when full, non-stick interior, even heat base, glass lid so I can see the progress of the cooking.I do wish it had the red dot in the center to tell me when the pan is properly preheated. You need to use plastic or wooden spoons or stirers with this surface.

Product Description

Review of Enclume CWS6 6-Tier Finishing Touches Cookware Stand, Hammered Steel

I saw this in a William-Sonoma store, but it was heavy and hard to fit into my car, so I ordered the same stand for Amazon (free shipping!) and got it two days later. I'm pleased with the construction. It holds several pots
and lids at once. I learned not to pile up skillets, bc the handles stick out, which makes for a loud hard clatter as they fall. Very useful if you
collect LeCreuset or Emile Henry cookware, as you don't have to lift heavy
pots to get to the one you want to use.

Product Description
Inspired by an antique French baker's rack, these stands beautifully display your finest cookware The tripod legs taper upward, lending a gentle grace while allowing you to store large pots on the bottom, smaller ones up top Cold riveted for long life and stability, the rack comes fully assembled Pots not included

Review of Farberware Restaurant Pro 14-Inch Open Skillet

The skillet is 14 inches, but the bottom of the pan is no larger than my 12 inch skillet. It's deep, but it is not a wide pan and that's what I was looking for.The outside is brushed metal and is not as nice looking as some other skillets. Not really suitable to hang on my pot rack with my other non-stick pans. The handle is useful.

Product Description
One of the most used pans in any well-equipped kitchen. Skillets have sloped sides so that foods slide out easily. . Used for cooking omelets, pancakes, quesadillas, sautéing vegetables, searing steaks, fish and poultry. The nonstick surface makes clean up effortless.

Review of T-Fal E603SA62 Ultimate Non-Stick Cookware Set 10-pc.

I purchased a set of royal prestige that I loved the way they cooked but stainless is the worst you will ever clean.I found myself using the 1 T Fal pan that I had all the time.I then sold my barely used royal prestige and purchased the T Fal ultimate set and use them every day. After you cook with them just rinse them under the water w/ no scrubbing they look like the just came out of the dishwasher.I just wish the fry pan came with a lid.

Review of Le Creuset Cast Iron Cookware Stand

I can't say enough good things about this rack.

Storage - I use the bottom 4 shelves for pot storage, the top shelf for ramekins and a plant. If needed, smaller pots can be nestled inside the larger pots, I have 6 pots and a grill pan on mine. Makes it so convenient to retrieve.

Appearance - black matte cast iron shelves, I have had mine for 5 years, looks like it did when it was new. This is a great way to display Le Creuset pots, the colors just pop.

It is very stable, I wasn't sure what to expect, but there have not been any problems, even made it through a California earthquake and remained upright.Although the description states the shelves are adjustable, it is very limited in that regard. The shelf depths are fixed by the length of the posts provided with the unit, what you can do is arrange so that the deep shelves are on either the top or the bottom. I recommend the deep shelves be on the bottom, as shown in the picture.

This piece is made with the quality you would expect from Le Creuset.

Attractive space-saving stand rests on the floor or a kitchen or pantry countertop. Constructed of durable cast iron and stands 35"H with all shelves. Some assembly required. Made in France.

Review of Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Fry Pan

Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Fry PanAfter reading about the possible health risks associated with Teflon, we carefully went shopping for stainless steel. While I agree that a lid would have been lovely, I must say this is a great pan - even heat disbursement with a good sturdy feel to it.We have used it for everything - grilled sandwiches, breakfast meats, searing, sauteing and just last night made a huge batch of homemade chili. Clean up is a snap! We love this pan! Just purchased one for my daughter.

Review of Fasta Pasta The Microwave Cooker

I've been boiling various pasta noodles, at least twice a week, for over 25 years. When I first saw the FASTA PASTA microwave cooker internet demo video, I was a bit skeptical but interested enough to purchase the product from Amazon.com. After using the product three times, I can honestly say that it not only cooks pasta very fast but better, with less mess and energy, than pot boiling the noodles. Just follow the simple instructions and you will have perfectly cooked pasta without having to check it while cooking for readiness. I wish that this product had been invented years ago. My ONLY minor negative comments: 1. FASTA PASTA can only cook up to four pasta servings at one time, which makes its use for a large group impracticle. 2. The water measurement lines are a bit difficult to see when water and pasta is added to the cooker. Adding color to these lines would make them easier to see.

Product Description
No waiting for a big pot of water to boil.Cook pasta to al dente perfection in the microwave!Saves time, energy and water.Use with spaghetti, fettuccini, macaroni, lasagna noodles, rotini and more. Will not boil over.Cooks evenly without sticking.Great for dormitory, motorhome, boat or cabin.Dishwasher safe.FDA approved microwaveable material.Made in the USA

Review of Open Country Deluxe 6-Person Nonstick Camp Set

I bought this cookware set about a year ago for family camping trips. We are a family of 5 who don't like to skimp on meals when camping. This set has more than met our expectations. There is nothing that we want to cook that we can't with these pots.I also use the largest pot to boil water for washing the dishes.I haven't had a problem with sticking although I do use spray or olive oil when I have to brown anything.I would not recommend using metal utensils as the non-stick coating is thin.I have used this set at least 10 times and it has held up well. They clean up very easily. The cups are small but double as measuring cups which always come in handy, one less item we have to carry. The plates are small but definately functional. The flat lids for the tops can also double as a warming area for breads, butter, etc.I can't tell how many years of wear I will get out of these, but I would buy again, especially for the price. And everything really does fit together in one pot.

Product Description
This high quality set is sure to fill the needs of those cooks out for a weekend of fun and serious campfire cooking. It includes three great cooking kettles with flat lids, two nonstick fry pans with a removable steel handle, and an 8-cup coffee percolator for preparing freshly brewed coffee over the fire. All items have been finished with a one-coat nonstick finish inside and out.The black outside finish allows for even faster heattransfer and faster clean up.The nonstick finish on all interior surfaces helps keep maintenance to a minimum.Couple that with six plastic compartment plates and cups and you have a great cooking set.The best part of all is that everything nests into the 10-quart kettle with the 10-inch fry pan serving as the cover.

Review of Anolon Advanced Hard-Anodized Aluminum 8-Quart Oval Pasta Pot with Lid

I got this because I saw Rachel use it on her food network show.I watched her show occasionally and I like her and some of her ideas although I am not a devoted follower.

I like having a big heavy duty nonstick pot for pasta and it works great for cooking soups and stews.I have stainless steel cookware and compared to my stainless steel pots this is functional and easy to clean. The oval shape is easier to handle compared to a big round tall pot, the dome shaped lid allows more cooking flexibility, it conducts heat well and Anolon makes quality cookware.I also purchased the 5-quart Oval Saute pan and the lids are inter-changeable.This is great for the times you don't need a lid that is domed and taller, has a vent, and you need to see the dish you are cooking.

I like the looks of this line better than her other line with the safety orange handles. That line has the same pot with a flatter glass top with no vent and it is called an 8-quart oval stock pot.

I watched the price for a while before I made a purchase. The price on this pot went up and down; as high as $99.00 and as low as $66.88.A friend who is a longtime Amazon shopper suggested putting it in my cart and waiting until it hit a good price to purchase it I did, I got it at a good price and I am happy.

So this is a great pot heavy duty and cleans easy.If you are a Rachel Ray fan but not into her line of pots with handles the same color of orange construction cones this is a great choice.

Review of Mario Batali 14-Inch Pizza Pan, Persimmon

This pan is great from the design point of veiw; except that its handle is made so fragile. It could break easily if not handled with care. When I first received it, the packing was poorly done and because of that the handle was broken. I observed the handle and noticed that it could break easily if not handled with care. But the baking surface is excellent and the look is excellent too. So I re-ordered it and I am hoping that this time I will get it in tact.
Well, I finally got the second shipment. I still think the packaging is poor for such a fragile item. The packaging from the manufacturer is itself not good; to top it off Amazon's packing was poor also; which is very unusual. Hopefully this will serve as a constructive criticism for future improvement.

Review of Farberware Classic 10-Inch Fry Pan with Lid

I have always wanted to own a classic aluminum piece of cookware and a skillet was a perfect choice.I had two gift certificates from doing online surveys so my total cost out of pocket after shipping was added was .58.So, I thought even if I didn't like the pan a great deal once I got it I only paid .58 cents and it would be no big loss. Was I pleasantly surprised at the curvy lines and clean appearance and tight fitting lid.It cooks wonderfully and the rolled, high sides make cooking even easier and cleanup is easy too.I can see myself reaching for this skillet time and time again.(The only flaw is it could use a handle on the opposite side to make draining liquids easier.):-)

Product Description
Functional as well as beautiful, this 10-inch frying pan is made of heavy 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. The pan has an aluminum core in its base to spread heat quickly and evenly. The core is completely clad in stainless steel so, like the rest of the pan, the bottom resists corrosion and discoloring and cleans up easily. Thick rolled rims add durability and make it possible to pour from the pan without dripping. Because the pan is 2-1/2 inches deep and comes with a tight-fitting, domed lid, it is roomy enough to fry chicken and sauté vegetables but can also be used for braising red cabbage and pork chops or for cooking chili on the stovetop or in the oven. The handles are oven safe to 350 degrees F and stay cool on the stovetop. The pan is dishwasher-safe and comes with a lifetime warranty against defects. All the utility of a fry pan plus the added advantage of a lid, for when something needs to simmer. Stainless steel with an aluminum disc, this classic cookware will provide a lifetime of fine performance.

Review of Silit Vision e30 Cookware 11-Inch Fry Pan

This heavy duty pan is the only non-stick pan alternative to teflan. There have been recent scientific studies that have shown concern about long term use & deterioration of teflan & teflan type coated pans. This German made Silit pan is a healthy alternative -- safe up to 3000 degrees.
I like the pan -- with a few caveats. It came (from Amazon) with a loose handle. Not a big issue, just needed a few twists w/a screw driver to tighten -- just a bit annoying when you pay so much for something. The pan also seems to need to be seasoned -- used a few times w/some oil -- in order to perform at peak (that was not suggested in the directions that came w/the pan). Also, the pan is really heavy. All in all, I use this pan just about everyday & it has been worth the money knowing I'm not cooking up some chemical coatings in my dinner.I hope Silit starts to make a skillet a couple inches bigger to appeal more to the US market.

Review of Anolon Advanced 2-Quart Covered Saucepan

My wife and I received the pans in this set for our wedding over 3 years ago. They have been excellent despite very heavy use from us.The non-stick still doesn't stick and there is almost no discoloration. They are very easy to clean because the entire pan is non-stick, not just the inside. The silicon on the handle does an excellent job of protecting your hand from being burnt even at high temperatures.

The only problem we've had is that on a few of the pans the silicon part of the handle came loose.I submitted a request to their customer service department on the web and had brand new pans within a week at no cost to me.

This pot is a perpetual standard in any kitchen at home - or when you're away from home.

Review of Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Grill Pan

I purchased this Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Grill Pan along with the Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Griddle Pan and love it! The "nonstick sear" surface used on this grill pan does just what it says, giving just enough grip to hold meat in place while still releasing easily when flipping the meat or removing it from the pan.

I will confess that I have not used this pan anywhere near as much as the griddle, but that is simply because we do not grill a lot of meats on the stove. I have done several steaks, however, and they came out juicy and delicious. I'm usually a picky eater and never eat the fat on a steak, but this pan cooked a ribeye so well that I ate the whole thing! The grill surface kept the meat from frying on the bottom, but it still retained plenty of moisture and all the flavor. (These steaks were not marinated, just seasoned with salt and pepper.)

The main points for this pan are:
* Nonstick (just enough grab for cooking meat, but nothing gets stuck to the pan)
* Oven-safe (have not tried this pan in the oven, only the griddle)
* Easy to clean (wipe with a paper towel first to get the grease)
* Handle stays cool while cooking (except in the oven)
* Large size can cook more food at once

While I have not tried cooking anything but steaks with this pan, it is by far the best grill pan I've tried. It probably won't see quite as much use as the griddle pan, but I don't see myself cooking a steak any other way from now on. Highly recommended.

Note: As with any nonstick cookware, avoid using metal cookware. I bought a set of silicone-coated tongs for flipping steaks and they work great.

Review of Paula Deen 5 Quart Cast Iron Covered Oval Casserole

I am a recent convert to cast iron cookware.I thought the stuff my mother used was old fassioned.Boy, was I wrong!!!Cast iron is great!Even heat distribution, non-stick (follow the instructions), and it doesn't slide around on the burner because it is heavy.I had to learn a bit about curing and cleaning but now that I have it down this is better than any stainless steel or non-stick cookware.WARNING - the handles get hot, the lids get hot and don't drop it on your toes. You will notice on the high end cookware that they always advertise how thick the pot bottoms are or how the multiple layers of metal distribute heat evenly - well cast iron does this naturally.Great pot - CAST IRON RULES (don't wait 50 years to find out)

It's difficult to find a canister set that is airtight and also large enough. I think I've searched my whole life for that perfect set. THIS ONE IS IT!!! Honestly, I wanted the Calphalon set because it would match my cookware and I thought the brushed finish would be easier to keep clean but I bought this set because of the size and I am so happy I did! The smallest canister holds an entire 5 lb bag of sugar, and I use the other two for all-purpose flour and bread flour, and yes, they hold the entire bag! They are gorgeous and not at all difficult to keep clean. I spent a lot of time researching canister sets and you can't go wrong with this one!!! You will love it!!!

Review of Revere 7-Piece 18/10 Stainless Steel Tri-Ply Bottom Cookware Set

I have been using my original set of five Revere cookware pans for over thirty years. They heat evenly for the most delicate bechamel sauce, frying, etc., plus clean up after a few burned-on accidents. While some of them look less than shiny, all have held up over the years.I had my eye on some fancy new cookware last year and started watching the Food Network on TV to see what the professionals use...imagine that...the un-shiniest, bent, burned-on old pans turned out the most ingenious creations! That got me thinking, it's not the pan but the chef that makes the biggest difference, so I decided to KEEP what worked. Then, I bought this very set of new ones just to have extra since the family has grown, and we expect to use them for at least another thirty years.

Review of Kaiser Bakeware Noblesse Nonstick Mini Springform Pans, Set of 4

When I found a recipe for mini-pumpkin cheesecakes, I knew I had to buy some mini-springform pans. The nonstick feature on this set makes them perfect for any recipe. When you receive them, you will think they are the most adorable kitchen item you have ever seen. They are made in Germany and have a 3-year warranty.

The pans are easy to close and release as they have a nice large clamp on the sides. This makes them perfect for mini cheesecakes. Molten chocolate cakes also sound delicious. For a party, you might want to order more than one box. These pans fit nicely on a baking sheet and you could bake six to a sheet. You could adapt your recipe so you fill these less and then they would make 1 elegant serving per guest for a party.

I was surprised not to find recipes included with the pans, but there are plenty of recipes you could adapt. Just keep the temperature the same and decrease the time. The recipe I have was in the Sunset magazine and called for 10 "tart" pans (4 1/2 inch wide with removable rims). The cheesecakes bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes so that might give you an idea of how you can adapt your own recipe.

Review of Chef's Secret 10 Surgical Stainless Steel 12-Element Cookware Set

I've had my surgical steel cookware for a couple of days and so far, so good. As pots and pans go it really seems like quality stuff. I was motivated to buy it as a result of seeing several demonstrations of it at various state fairs I've been to. Also, everything I know about the coated pans, which are made that way so nothing sticks, suggests that the coating is not good for you.

Anyway, I've successfully cooked two or three meals. I've noticed that the pots and pans take a while to warm up, but once the food goes in it cooks very fast due to the seal with the cover, which makes up for the slow warm up of the pots and pans. Next, they are super easy to clean, no matter what's been in them, it comes out with just a wisk of the sponge, or I leave the pot full of water a couple hours and when I come back it easily washes out. Finally, I feel better about eating food off of uncoated surfaces. I've always felt that when doing it that way I was slowly killing myself. No more worries about that.

In sum, I'm looking forward to continuing to explore this healthy way to eat.

Review of All Clad Stainless Steel Saucier Pans

All Clad Stainless Steel Saucier PansI think people are missing the point of this pan. It's not a saute pan with straight sides and a lid. It's a "SAUCIER" pan.

These pans are designed to reduce sauces to a servable consistancy. The curved sides of the pan allow heat to come up the sides of the pan more, as well as get more liquid in contact with a flamed area. This heats up the liquid rapidly, as well as reduces it more rapidly than other pans.It does this wonderfully.

That's what it's for, it's not for soup or anything like that. That's what "Pots" are for.

I love to use it to reduce balsamic vinegar, various juices, hard ciders, or wine into a syrupy sauce to drizzle over things.

Product Description
The occasion demands something extraordinary, Creole Shrimp Meuniere perhaps. This small pan can play a critical role of your culinary success. Its wide top and sloping sides are perfect for creating spectacular sauces. The addition of a lid expands the repertoire of this pan.

Review of Berndes Nonstick Milestone 7 Piece Set

I like the brand and I like the set and I liked the price. The problem is that the set arrived scratched. I kept my second set because there were just a few scratches compare to the first set I received from Amazon. I give Amazon all the credit of the world of how fast they reacted when I called for a replacement.

The first set arrived all scratched inside of the fry pan and 7-quart covered stockpot. I called Amazon back and Amazon send a UPS call tag to pick them up right away and at the same time shipped out a new shipment the following day. When I got my second set 4 days later, only the Fry pan still had some minor scratches, however, we decided to keep because of the deal and who knows how the third set will be when it arrives. Me and my wife has came with the conclusion that the problem on the scratches is with their packaging. I believe either Amazon or Berndes will solve this problem with some bubble wraps filling the empty spots...

Hope this help

Review of All-Clad Stainless 10 Piece Cookware Set

This is a foundation set of high quality cookware, suitable for any serious home cook. With stainless steel exteriors over aluminum cores, the pots distribute heat evenly, yet the cooking surfaces are non-reactive. While they do not have non-stick coatings, when used as directed (preheating oil in the pans before adding food to be fried), food usually doesn't stick to the pans, and you certainly don't have to worry about Teflon flaking off into your food. The stainless steel surfaces are also easy to clean.

If you are used to cheaper cookware, there are a few differences with these pots that you will need to get used to.First, since the pots are heavier than single-layer pots, the balance point for pouring a pot with one hand is right up against the pot itself, rather than out along the handle. And since the handles are solid steel, that means you will definitely need to use a pot holder for pouring, although you can usually touch the handles bare handed if you're simply moving the pots around on the stove. Also, the handles for the lids are steel, so you need to use a pot holder just to lift a lid (and remind visitors to do the same, so that they don't burn their hands). While the cookware is made in the Canonsburg, PA, the lids are marked "Made in China."

Review of Scanpan Classic Ceramic Titanium 11-Piece Chef's Cookware Set

I have had my set of SCANPANs for 5 years. They are the most awesome pans you will ever buy.I bought mine when I was in college. My wife said I could do anything I wanted with my bonus from work so what did I do?I bought a set of SCANPANs.And I really wanted a 17" monitor. But the pans won in the end.

The pans are solid.Thankfully my wife hasn't hit me over the head with one yet.You feel the difference when you take them out of the box. Then you cook with them and notice how evenly they heat up.No hot spots here.Just solid cooking performance all the way around.

Cleaning the pans is easy.Just grab your favorite steel wool pad or scouring pad and scrub away. The surface is not the best nonstick on the original set I bought but for the most part the food comes off rather easily.Keep reading...

The glass lids are heavy duty Pyrex glass. It sure is nice to be able to see the food as you are cooking it.Do be careful as the glass lids will chip or break.I have several that have bounced off of the ceramic tile and chipped the edges. They still work.I haven't had one break yet and I am rough when I do the dishes.I broke two sets of glasses washing dishes in my first two years of marriage. We now use Mason canning jars for drinking. No warranty on the lids though.

The lifetime warranty is worth it.The 11-Inch Covered Saute got some pot marks in the bottom of the pan. These things happen when you use the pan almost everyday and abuse the heck out of it.so I sent it in to SCANPAN for replacement. In 3 weeks I had a brand new pan; one of the new ones with the New Tek coating. It is an awesome pan.The new stuff is truly non-stick, much better than before.

I highly recommend these pans. What other male would spend this much on a set of pans while still in college. With the lifetime warranty I will have these pans buried with me.Who says you can't take it with you.

Review of All-Clad LTD Nonstick Grande Grille Pan

I have tried several stove top grills, so I feel qualified to comment on this one.First I bought the non-stick aluminum Nordicware grill, which worked ok till the non-stick peeled.Next I tried the LeCreuset, which was sooooo heavy, hard to clean, and began to develop rust spots.Next was the Lodge Logic, which was similar to the LeCreuset, but cheaper.(Too heavy and hard to clean.)Finally, I purchased this All-Clad Grande Grille Pan, which is the largest of the lot.It cooks evenly over two burners on my gas stove and cleans up easily with a little soaking. So far, this grill out performs any of the others and I am finally HAPPY with my purchase!(If you are a Foodie, you may notice Giada DeLaurentis using this same grill on "Everyday Italian".)If you are in the market for a quality stove-top grill, this one won't disappoint you.

Review of Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-Inch Square Grill Pan

I had been toying with the idea of a non-stick "grill pan" for some time, and could never justify the expense... After all, I had a large George Foreman, and used it very rarely.

But I was running out of cookware to shop for <grin>, and began tracking several with the plan of buying the first one that came on at a great price.... I tracked both All Clads, and this one.I almost bought the large All Clad, but discovered they didn't qualify for the Amazon promotion, so that blew that!

Then this one came up at $29.99 and I jumped all over it!

I have done beef steaks, pork steaks and salmon on it with excellent results.Cleanup, though not a breeze, is quick enough.Cooking residue tends to stick tighter on either side of the rounded ribs, but I have yet to need anything more than a little dish soap and hot water on a terry dish cloth.

One caveat - I seriously doubt those with solid top Electric Ranges will be satisfied with this pan.The bottom is not smooth, but rather follows the ridged cooking surface - in reverse.I am not familiar with these ranges, but understand a perfectly flat surface is essential to successful cooking.

Now I'm thinking about the 11" square griddle....

Review of Paula Deen 5 Inch and 7 Inch Santoku Knife Set

We got this set of two knives as a wedding gift a few years ago. It was well used and always washed by hand, never in the dishwasher. A couple of months ago I noticed a crack in the blade near the handle of the 7" knife. I contacted Farberware and they asked me to send the knife in. I honestly didn't expect much except maybe a replacement knife. Today, I received a 23 pc knife set from Farberware! They only asked that when I send in the knife that I include my mailing address. I have to say that I am quite impressed with their customer service! I would definitely buy from Farberware again!

Product Description
A good set of knives is just as important as quality cookware. Chefs go crazy over knives, and I can understand why - they become an extension of your hand in the kitchen. My new collection is razor-sharp to get the job done will and fast, and feel comfortable so you won't get fatigued. I love the storage block from acacia wood, an eco-friendly hardwood that has such a rich, warm grain.

Review of Farberware Classic Tiburon 2-1/2-Quart Whistling Stainless-Steel Teakettle

I've searched a long time for a decent teakettle.I actually drink a lot of tea, and have been through about 8 teakettles looking for one that I could love.I've found it! This teakettle has a cute little design (the flared bottom) that is also very practical. It covers more surface area, so it boils faster - and it really does.I've always hated the whistle on teapots, and usually find myself tripping over the cats on my way to grab the kettle off the stove because I couldn't handle the noise. This whistle is nice and gentle, it doesn't make me jump out of my skin, and my husband can sleep through it.I haven't experienced the diminished whistle mentioned in other reviews. The handle is comfortable from whichever position you grab it, and high enough so that you aren't burning yourself when you grab it, you can get the lid off easily, and since your hand isn't right over the spout, no danger of steam burns.

The only thing I would recommend is flipping the cover open before you pick up the kettle - it's slightly awkward until you get used to it.

When I was ready to buy a new teapot, I was prepared to spend a lot of money to finally get a decent one.I didn't need to - this economical find has everything I was looking for. I've actually purchased three - one for me, one for my sister-in-law, and one for my mother. We're all very happy!

Review of Lodge Logic 10-Inch Chef's Skillet

Nope, it's cuz Lindy stir-frys. Lindy has used cheap non-sticks skillets, expensive non-stick skillets and was considering the ones that cost a bomb in Williams-Sonoma (Lindy like shiny...oooh..., aaah...) when the kindly and knowledgeable saleswoman informed her that there was not a non-stick skillet on the market that could tolerate daily stir-fry even with the temperature correctly set to medium heat (err....yeah....) for much more than a year. This tallied exactly and precisely with Lindy's experience with non-stick coatings, no matter the price.

Sigh. Lindy is not made of money. Sigh.

So at the nearest Wally World, Lindy found this skillet in the clearance section without the instructions for seasoning. Half price. Score!

A quick internet search netted much advice for seasoning the pan.

From the Lodge website:

"Re-Seasoning your Lodge Cast Iron
While maintaining the seasoning (as in Step 5 above) should keep your Cast Iron in good condition, at some point you may need to repeat the seasoning process. If food sticks to the surface, or you notice a dull, gray color, repeat the seasoning process:

Wash the cookware with hot, soapy water and a stiff brush. (It is okay to use soap this time because you are preparing to re-season the cookware).

Rinse and dry completely.

Apply a thin, even coating of MELTED solid vegetable shortening (or cooking oil of your choice) to the cookware (inside and out).

Place aluminum foil on the bottom rack of the oven to catch any dripping.

Set oven temperature to 350 - 400 degrees F.

Place cookware upside down on the top rack of the oven.
Bake the cookware for at least one hour. After the hour, turn the oven off and let the cookware cool in the oven.
Store the cookware uncovered, in a dry place when cooled."

Other internet sites are big fans of bacon grease. Simply put, you will need some kind of solid fat that can take very high heat in order to season the pan. Lindy knows that Crisco will take very high heat and is easier to obtain than bacon grease. Lindy doesn't eat bacon because of her high cholesterol.

Not that Lindy EVER burns food in her spiffy frypan but should this happen to you, scrap/soak/remove as much as possible, then place the pan on the burner set to max heat. The heat will burn off the crud and the pan will not rust. You can add salt to the pan and use it as an abrasive to help scrub off the food bits as they carbonize. Re-seasoning at this point is useful but not utterly necessary. Lindy would like to give credit where credit is due and report that Lindy's Mommy taught her this trick.

If you don't re-season, you'll just need more oil than usual until the seasoning builds up again. Once this happens, eggs don't stick. Steaks sear on the outside and are juicy on the inside. Lindy can break her diet and make fried rice. Use one of those plastic bottles with a tiny tip to drip oil in as needed and your food won't be too much fattier than using regular non-stick.

But Lindy is very scared for her toes if she ever drops the pan. Never use one hand to move it.

Review of Progressive International Microwavable Fish & Veggie Steamer

I consider myself a pretty good cook, but don't claim to be a microwave master.I've used this steamer twice and it has ruined the food both times - brocoli and asparagus.I followed the instructions on the lame instruction 3x5 slip of paper included in the package. Both times the food was inedible.Don't be fooled by the cheap price. The shipping costs twice as much.I do not recommend this product.

Review of Rachael Ray 2-Piece Nylon Turner Set -Orange (51211)

I bought a whole bunch of Rachael Ray cookware (love it!) and other Rachael Ray products from Amazon and got these turners amongest them. I like these overall but found that the edge that goes under the food could have been sharper. It's a little blunt which causes light foods to be pushed. For foods like burgers it's fine but for light, round breakfast sausage it just pushes them around the griddle instead of sliding underneath. I use my other, more traditional, turners in that case which easily slide under the sausage for turning. If these were just a little thinner at the end then it would be a 5 star product.

Product Description
The long flexible heads on these turners can flip everything from delicate eggs to juicy steaks. The open design lets grease fall back into the pan instead of landing on your plate.

Review of Prime Cookware 8 Piece Square Stainless Steel Cookware Set with Glass Lids

Which is what one of my concerns were when I purchased the set on Overstock & paid twenty dollars more than they are listed here. Still I like the way food cooks evenly. All of the glass lids fit snugly. The pan that is used for "frying" which I don't do much of does show heat discoloration inside bottom of it after my husband fried strips of chicken. The other pans have no discoloration even though I have boiled water (to cook rice)(which turned out perfect & didn't stick)& it looks like new. Clean up is easy. No need to scrub.
I bought the set about four months ago & so far I am pleased with the the look, the feel, the durability & something I totally unexpected is that the stainless steel handles stay cool to the touch!
The glass lids have a small hole in them for the steam escape route which is perfect. The handle of the lids also stay cool.
I grew up cooking with cast iron & stainless steel only. As an adult, I too fell for the "silverstone" cookware. T-FAL was some of the worst silverstone cookware I ever had the displeasure of cooking with. A gift from my dear Dad, I never told him...he was convinced it was great cookware...and now of course we are told it's unhealthy to cook with silverstone.I threw it all out & decided to go back to all stainless steel & cast iron.
I will continue to revamp all of my kitchen wares & gadgets with stainless steel for durability, longevity, & oh yes...I think it is good looking.
Thinking about purchasing a second set for my expanding family...
from Amazon.com this time!

Review of LaCuisine 10 Piece Microwave Cookware Set

This set arrived yesterday and I am sending it back today. Firstly, although it might be well-sized for reheating small portions of leftovers, all but one of the containers are way too small for microwave cooking. Secondly, the lids don't fit! And finally and most importantly, although it is supposed to be save for microwave cooking, the warnings on the bottom of each piece that instruct you NOT to cook anything with fat, sugar or oil make me very nervous. What kind of cookware warns you not to cook without those ingredients? I think I'd better spend the extra few dollars to get some pyrex or similar. This set is garbage.

Review of Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 17-Inch Cast Iron Skillet

With proper care this pan will last more than a lifetime. Most of the Cast Iron pans made in the late 1800's are still floating around. This pan can last that long too. While this pan is hugh and can cook lots and lots of food. It is better suited for outdoor cooking on a Campfire or a Turkey fryer base than useing in a kitchen. It is pretty big for a stove as you can have two burners heating it at once. I am glad I bought this pan. I also bought a smaller skillet for use on my home stove.

But for campfire cooking this is one of the most versitle pieces out there, you can fry in it, use it a a griddle and make monster pancakes. You can even whip up a big batch of Chili. If you likecamping or even backyard cooking this is a must have. I like to use mine with a Turkey deepfryer base as the heating element it works great.

Product Description
Loop side handles make this 17" skillet easy to handle. It's seasoned and ready to use. Cast Iron is a fantastic cooking medium. It conducts heat evenly with no hot-spots and maintains heat for efficiency and cooking control. Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned finish means you can enjoy all the benefits of cooking with Cast Iron without having to season it.

Review of Starfrit Light Cast Iron Fry Pans

Starfrit Light Cast Iron Fry PansI picked up the 11-inch version of this pan because the old cast iron pan (one of the really heavy ones) I had used was reclaimed recently by my mother after a long term loan. I think having a cast iron pan around is essential, but I have to admit, that super heavy model was somewhat of a pain to us. Which is why I wanted a more versatile one, and one that wasn't as tough on the wrists. This pan fit that bill perfectly. It has the heft and strength of character you'd want in cast iron, but more maneuverability. The stay cool handle is nice, too, when you're cooking on the stove. Last night though I was making a savory bread pudding in here, and started it on the stove, and then moved it into the oven. Luckily, I remembered at the last second before pulling it out of the oven that stay-cool or not, the handle was going to be hot after being in the oven. So, be careful in that situation, which will come up because of the pan's ability to go from stovetop to oven easily. That, plus the lightness, will really let you expand how you utilize cast iron.

Product Description
Our new line of light cast iron pans are made in a metal mold, not a sand mold, so we are able to reduce the gauge and offer a pan that is 50% lighter than traditional cast iron pans on the market. The light cast iron has the same features as traditional cast iron, without any of the negatives. Our cast iron has a reinforced ceramic surface that prevents rust with no PTFE, no PFOAs and no toxic fumes, even when using high heat. The light cast iron retains and transmits heat quickly and evenly for perfect browning without needing to use a maximum heat setting. The riveted stainless steel handle stays cool to the touch on stovetop, yet still allows oven use.

Review of Oneida Cook N' Pour Stainless Steel 2-1/2-Quart Sauce Pan with Lid

This pan was an acceptable purchase at $21.99 plus super saver shipping, which currently isn't being offered. The pan has good weight, appears to be of exceptional quality, and is supposed to be dishwasher safe according to the Amazon writeup (which was a top priority for me). However, the instructions with the pan said that hand washing was recommended; I ran it through the dishwasher anyway, and it appears fine. There is a beautiful glass lid that comes with the pan that is interchangeable with a Farberware pan that I also purchased from Amazon, which really is helpful. The pan will drain from either side.
